3 Boxers Chase Olympic Dreams
This year we have three strong contenders entering the 2016 Junior Olympics Tournament: Evan Wrazidlo, Jesse Walters, and Simon Walters.
This season will be Jesse and Evan’s second time entering the tournament. Last year they both won the state tournament and scored a second place finish at the 4-State Regional Tournament. This year they are much more seasoned and their goal is to break through to get a shot at nationals. It’s Simon’s first time entering the Junior Olympics Tournament, but don’t count him out. Last winter he boxed his way to the National Silver Gloves Tournament and had a very strong showing. He’s looking better every day and looks forward to showing his skills in another advancing tournament.
This year’s Junior Olympic Tournament will be held in Dallas, Texas. It’s a long ways from Minnesota, but that doesn’t stop us from taking on the challenge. If one of our boxers wins the national tournament they become eligible to represent the United States in international competition, which would be an amazing opportunity and a huge honor.
There are levels to boxing and each level brings different opportunities. Boxing can take a kid all over the world. With dedication in the gym and working hard every day there is no limit to what a kid can do in this sport. The path to the top starts the same for every boxer, you just gotta keep showing up to train and learn the art of boxing.
